What Is There To Do On A Beautiful Summer's Day In Eugene, Oregon?

Eugene Celebration Parade

Summers in Eugene mean lots of things to see and do.  The sun and blue skies can usually be counted on.  The temperatures stay in the 70 to 90 degree range during the day and a light jacket might be needed in the evenings.  Every weekend usually offers a large range of activities and events, in addition to the wonderful scenery that nature has blessed us with.  Take last Saturday for example.

My wife and I watched the Eugene Celebration Parade and then listened to live music and watched a few activities at the Eugene Celebration itself.

Eugene, Oregon Farmers MarketThen we walked to the Lane County Farmers Market and the Saturday Market downtown. The tomatoes and blueberries are in season, but we have plenty growing in our garden right now.  So we bought some other fresh produce, fresh flowers, ate a light meal from a local vendor's booth, and listened to street musicians performing.  There are a lot of farms and ranches nearby, so finding wholesome food isn't difficult.

Sarver Winery The weather was so nice, we decided to take a picnic lunch to one of the many nearby wineries to sample a bottle of wine and enjoy the countryside views.  Sarver Winery has a nice view on its back patio, has free wine tasting, and lets you bring your own food.  We chatted with other people there, took their picture, and relaxed.

King Estates WineryThat was so much fun, we stopped by another winery.  Sweet Cheeks Winery also has a great view, but King Estate Winery was on the way, so we stopped there instead.  This winery is the one where you take out-of-town guests because the vineyards and buildings are the most impressive.  This is the largest winery in the area and is a large operation.  We didn't have time for the winery tour, but did see the lavendar beds in bloom.

Moon Falls in Lane County, OregonThere are a lot of waterfalls in Lane County, so we stopped by a few to enjoy the natural spectacle and listen to the peaceful sound of cascading water.  Like most places around here, there were only a few other visitors to dispel the illusion that we had the place to ourselves.  One of these summers we should try to see every waterfall in Lane County.

From there, we drove beside the Siuslaw River and over the Coast Range to the ocean and the famed Oregon Coast.  Heceta Head State Park and Lighthouse is one of our favorite places to stop.

Heceta Head State Park

We did it all in the same day.  There were many other things that we could have done instead.

Then we headed next door to our neighbors for dinner to enjoy some of the fresh crab that they caught on the Coast.  Life in Eugene and western Oregon involves a lot of choices!
