The Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival

Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival in Woodburn, OregonEvery spring from late March to early May, tens of thousands of visitors from all over the U.S. and overseas flock to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival near Woodburn, Oregon to see over 40 acres of tulips in bloom.  The festival started in 1985 as a way to help generate more income for the farm and it draws more and more people toting their cameras every year.

The Tulip Festival is a family affair, spanning three generations.  Dorothy and Ross Iverson have raised their children and grandchildren on this farm, raising more than 50 crops (including tulips).  Besides viewing row upon row of tulips, there are many other activities for young and old alike to enjoy.  Of course, tulip bulbs in dozens of varieties are available to purchase and plant in your own gardens.

On the way home, many people stop at the nearby (and always busy) Woodburn Company Stores Outlet Mall to buy some bargains to take home with them.  It sits beside Interstate 5, not far from Portland to the north and the capital city of Salem to the south.

This is the fifth year that I've attended the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival, with family, neighbors, friends, and international home stay students along to share the experience.  I never tire of what I see and look forward to going there for many more years to come.
